Help me Understand

There have been several situations in the past few Sessions when it would have been nice to be in multiple places at once. When two, four, or MORE committees and sub-committees are meeting there is often a need to have eyes and ears present in the process. Additionally, given the vast number of bills that the faith community works, it would be very helpful to have some people who are willing to volunteer their time to track bills, sit in committee, or even work an entire corner of an issue.

We hope that the Policy Wonk Network is an opportunity to draw together interested Virginians to participate in what we call Faithful Democracy or Faithful Citizenship (for the Catholics among us).

Faithful Democracy is:

(1) a concept pertaining to civic participation by religious people;

(2) an organizing tool created by a group of national religious organizations to achieve the following goals:

  1. To increase the number of people casting informed votes that are counted in elections;
  2. To increase the number of people with a commitment to responsible civic participation that is grounded in their religious values;
  3. To create or strengthen lasting partnerships between different religious groups, and between the faith community and secular organizations at the local level.

Through our Web site and grassroots efforts, we will offer people of faith in Virginia a wealth of voter resources and numerous opportunities for coordinated action at the General Assembly. If you want to monitor, we have a place for you. If you want to track a bill, we have a place for you. If you have a pet concern such as Assisted Living or Health Care, we have a place for YOU!
